1.Avoidance of areas with known epizootic plague-a warning sign may be posted
and also sick or dead animals.
2.Use of repellants,insecticides,and protective clothing when at risk of exposure
to rodents’ fleas.
3.Wearing of gloves during the handling of animal carcasses
4.Short-term antibiotic therapy for the contacts of pneumonic plague and those
unable to avoid the affected area(eg.health care provider)
5.Use of masks in the event of bioterrorism.
6.Elimination of rodents’ food and habitats from the area
7. Use of Vaccine:Its use is confined to protecting laboratory personnel working with Y.pestis and those whose jobs brings them in regular contact with wild rodents in the epizootic areas.
