Combinations of Tomato and Broccoli Enhance Antitumor Activity

A daily diet comprising of fruits and vegetables has been recomended for cancer prevention.Studies have shown anti-tumour effect of tomatoes on oral cancer.Lycopene,an anti-oxidant in tomato, seems to be the factor responsible for this anti-tumour activity. To add to it a recent study found that a combination of tomato and broccoli was more effective at slowing tumor growth than either tomato or broccoli alone and supports the public health recommendations to increase the intake of a variety of plant components. This study was conducted on the Dunning R3327-H prostate adenocarcinoma model. It found that Lycopene at 23 or 224 nmol/g of the diet insignificantly reduced tumor weights by 7% or 18%, respectively, whereas tomato reduced tumor weight by 34% . This also prooved that lycopene alone is not as effective as tomato.Broccoli decreased tumor weights by42% whereas the 10:10 combination caused a 52% decrease.

JOKE:
A girl visited a farm one day and wanted to buy a large watermelon. "That will be three dollars," said the farmer. "I've only got 30 cents," said the young girl. The farmer pointed to a very small watermelon in the field and said, "How about that one?" "Okay, I'll take it," said the girl, "but leave it on the vine. I'll be back for it in a month."
