Actually, both conventional glasses and pin-hole glasses reduce the focus effort needed to read. Pinhole glasses are much less useful because they decrease contrast, brightness, and the field of vision. They are used only for stationary viewing like reading, computer use etc. They are much lightweight, cheaper and durable than prescription lenses, and they never have to be changed.
Worn as sunglasses, they can even be harmful because the holes allow damaging ultraviolet rays to reach the eye. Using it on your own may correct your blur vision but then it may mask some serious underlying defect. So it’s always better to discuss it with your doctor. Remember self-prescription of vision correction could be dangerous.
If you visit this site pin-hole glasses , you may feel that these glasses are a substitute for conventional eyeglasses. Then when you go to the bottom of their page you see
“Please Note: Pinhole glasses are meant to be used only for stationary viewing. It is dangerous to use them when you are moving as it affects peripheral vision of the eyes.”
