Warning: “Smoking is injurious to health.”
There is a dictum that “everything has its harm and benefits”, but does smoking has any beneficial effect? Yes, it has. Those are too insignificant in comparison to the injury it causes to our body.
It's easy to enumerate them .There are so few of them. They are:
1. Smoking decreases appetite(but no evidence of benefits to overweight ones).
2. Risk of ulcerative colitis is reduced in smokers.
3. It interferes with the development of Kaposi’s sarcoma( the skin cancer known to be associated with AIDS ).
4. Some studies conclude that smoking plays a certain protective role in the occurrence of sarcoidosis (a disease due to inflammation that can affect any organ but is commonly known to be associated with granulamatous lesion in lungs), although smoking has no effect on the extent, course and outcome of the disease.
Now, take a look at the harmful effects –
1. It is the major cause of emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and lung cancer(In fact, the best management for mild to moderate chronic bronchitis is to stop smoking).
2. It is also linked to atherosclerosis and its major complication, myocardial infarction.
3. Numerous other diseases like oral cancer, cancer of larynx, oesophagial cancer, peptic ulcer, pancreatic cancer, bladder cancer…….
What’s next?
The next step is to do some research and find out how to quit smoking?
Update:In the bad old days companies went too far in promoting their products.Check out this pic

I personally think the health risk out way the benefits.
I agree. I think that these 'benefits' are just an excuse to make us feel good about smoking.
So cigarette manufacturers can now go to health minister of India, who has been charging a campaign against smoking on screen and also for gory pictures on cigarette packages.
He must know that all these big companies are contributing in their own way to health promotion of people.
You missed quite a few health benefits of smoking.
Health benefits of smoking - from Wikipedia.
Studies suggest that smoking decreases appetite.[46][47] but did not conclude that overweight people should smoke or that their health would improve by smoking.(Unless it can help them loose that 80 extra pounds that is equal to the health risks of a pack a day smoker)
Several types of "Smoker’s Paradoxes",[48] (cases where smoking appears to have specific beneficial effects), have been observed; often the actual mechanism remains undetermined. Risk of ulcerative colitis has been frequently shown to be reduced by smokers on a dose-dependent basis; the effect is eliminated if the individual stops smoking.[49][50] Smoking appears to interfere with development of Kaposi's sarcoma,[51] breast cancer among women carrying the very high risk BRCA gene,[52][citation needed] preeclampsia,[53] and atopic disorders such as allergic asthma.[54] A plausible mechanism of action in these cases may be the nicotine in tobacco smoke acting as an anti-inflammatory agent and interfering with the disease process.[55]
Evidence suggests that non-smokers are up to twice as likely as smokers to develop Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease.[56] A plausible explanation for these cases may be the effect of nicotine, a cholinergic stimulant, decreasing the levels of acetylcholine in the smoker's brain; Parkinson's disease occurs when the effect of dopamine is less than that of acetylcholine. In addition, nicotine stimulates the mesolimbic dopamine pathway (as do other drugs of abuse), causing an effective increase in dopamine levels. Opponents counter by noting that consumption of pure nicotine may be as beneficial as smoking without the risks associated with smoking (as in CO poisoning).
It has been hypothesized that schizophrenics smoke for self-medication.[57] Considering the high rates of physical sickness and deaths[58][59] among persons suffering from schizophrenia, one of smoking's short term benefits is its temporary effect to improve alertness and cognitive functioning in that disease.[60] It has been postulated that the mechanism of this effect is that schizophrenics have a disturbance of nicotinic receptor functioning.[61] Rates of smoking have been found to be much higher in schizophrenics.[62]
Google Smoking and parkinsons or alzheimers for more good news for smokers!
BUT you missed the biggest benefit - IT"S ENJOYABLE TO SMOKE!
It’s interesting to see that even a boring topic like medicine can capture such media space and have so many words devoted to it. To quote an instance we can mention chantix. Its one of those drugs that almost represents the whole concept of the quit smoking drugs, or rather publicity has made it that. Irrespective of the fact how chantix works or how effective it is it has managed to gain a fair amount of attention and make way to the people’s homes. Thanks to publicity or rather publicity agenda superstardom for a drug was an unthought of concept a few years back.
There are many benefits when you quit smoking, on your health, finances and confidence can motivate you to stop and stay stopped. If you quit smoking you can take advantage of major health benefits that include a long and healthy life when you stop smoking.

you forgot to add that smoking raises the chances of coolness by 300% and even if you dont smoke you will most likely die from something before smoking kills you. So all in all...if you want to smoke, then smoke...if you dont, then shut up and let me smoke!
